STRONG LOCAL PICKUPS FOR EDWARDS. While speculation continues on who may or may not run for the 1st District seat, the only announced Republican candidate, former law enforcement official Eddie Edwards, picked up four more GOP activists for his campaign this week.
Venerable former state Sen. Jack Barnes of Raymond is endorsing Edwards, calling him a hard worker and “a problem solver who was honest and straightforward, which is exactly what we need in Washington.”
Barnes was in the Senate from 1992-1998 and from 2000-2012 and served as Senate majority leader and Senate president pro tempore. He is currently vice chairman of the Raymond Board of Selectman and a small business owner. He is also a U.S. Army veteran.
Belknap County Commission Chairman David DeVoy of Sanbornton joined Gail and Dick McClure of Hale’s Location in backing Edwards.
DeVoy, a U.S. Army veteran and small business owner called Edwards “the right person to change Washington,” while the McClures said he is “truly inspiring.”
