"By inviting Waters to speak in New Hampshire and continuing to support her presence at a fundraiser that will benefit her campaign despite her inexcusable vote, Shea-Porter is living up to her reputation as a career politician who has lost touch with the rest of us."
Dover, NH - Eddie Edwards, candidate for Congress in NH-01, has been holding Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D, NH-01) accountable for standing by her House colleague, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D, CA-43), despite her inexcusable vote against the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017. Waters' opposition would have hindered courageous VA employees from being able to hold our government accountable when it fails to meet its obligations.
Waters is scheduled to headline a Strafford County Democratic Committee fundraiser this Sunday.
Congresswoman Waters' visit is especially concerning to Granite Staters due to recent reports of unacceptable conditions at the Manchester VA Medical Center that were only discovered due to the actions of brave whistle-blowers, as originally reported by the Boston Globe.
On Thursday, Edwards called on Shea-Porter to not attend the fundraiser this weekend. He also called on her to publicly ask the Strafford County Democratic Committee to recant their invitation for Waters to speak at their event. In response to Eddie Edwards request, WMUR-TV reported on Thursday evening that Shea-Porter's spokeswoman said, "Carol will attend the picnic."
Shockingly, WMUR-TV actually reported this morning, per The Hill, that "Shea-Porter invited [Waters] to the fundraiser."
Eddie Edwards' focus on this important issue has garnered significant local attention on WMUR-TV, which can be found HERE and HERE, Girard at Large, which can be found HERE, as well as national attention via Fox News, which can be found HERE.
Derek Dufresne, a RightVoter general consultant for Eddie Edwards' campaign for Congress, released the following statement:
"We are incredibly disappointed, but not surprised to hear that Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is putting her political cronies in Washington before the concerns and needs of her constituents. By inviting Waters to speak in New Hampshire and continuing to support her presence at a fundraiser that will benefit her campaign despite her inexcusable vote, Shea-Porter is living up to her reputation as a career politician who has lost touch with the rest of us."
