"Regardless of the fact that the toll hike plan has been put on hold, given the opportunity, we now know that Chris Pappas is more than happy to support increased costs for New Hampshire motorists."
Dover, NH – Executive Councilor Chris Pappas (D, Manchester), a Democratic candidate for Congress in NH-01, has come out in support of a proposal by the Department of Transportation to significantly raise tolls on the state’s turnpike system.
As reported by WMUR-TV,
“the DOT’s plan calls for rates at the tolls in Hooksett and Bedford to jump from $1 to $1.50; in Hampton to increase from $2 to $2.50; and in Dover and Rochester on the Spaulding Turnpike to go from 75 cents to $1.
“Ramp tolls in Hooksett, Hampton, Dover and Rochester would jump by 25 cents…”
After significant pressure from Granite Staters, as reported by WMUR-TV, the toll hike plan has been put on hold as Governor Chris Sununu (R, NH) has removed it from the Executive Council's upcoming agenda.
In response, Eddie Edwards, a Republican candidate for Congress in NH-01, made the following statement:
“On the heels of a recent gas tax hike, some of our elected officials on both side of the aisle in Concord still don’t think New Hampshire's hard-working families pay enough. That’s absurd. What’s even more outrageous is that one of those individuals, Councilor Chris Pappas, also hopes to represent NH-01 in Congress.
“Regardless of the fact that the toll hike plan has been put on hold, given the opportunity, we now know that Chris Pappas is more than happy to support increased costs for New Hampshire motorists. If he gets to Capitol Hill, he certainly will join with Nancy Pelosi to push a similar agenda in Washington. Granite Staters deserve better than that, which is why I’ll fight every day to stop irresponsible tax-and-spend liberals like Councilor Pappas from controlling even more of your hard-earned money.”
