Dover, NH – Rick Santorum, a former United State Senator and Republican candidate for President, is weighing in on the Republican race for Congress in NH-01 with his endorsement of United States Navy veteran and former Police Chief Eddie Edwards.
Rick Santorum served in the United States Senate from Pennsylvania from 1995 to 2007 and was the third-ranking Republican from 2001 to 2007. Senator Santorum ran twice for U.S. President; first in 2012 and again in 2016. He finished second to eventual Republican nominee Mitt Romney in 2012 after winning 11 states and receiving nearly 4 million votes.
This announcement follows on the heels of an endorsement from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who announced his support of Eddie Edwards last week at an event in Portsmouth. In addition, the Edwards campaign has the largest announced coalition of Granite Staters publicly supporting his campaign in the NH-01 Republican Primary.
Former United States Senator Rick Santorum made the following statement:
"America is at a crossroads, and its people are ready for new voices in Congress. Eddie Edwards has served our nation in the United States Navy and honorably in law enforcement in the great state of New Hampshire. He has lived a life of service and is now ready to continue that mission on Capitol Hill. He is ideally suited to represent NH-01 and help President Trump change the direction of our country.
"Eddie values the sanctity of life and will fight to protect it. He is committed to bringing manufacturing back in order to grow jobs and bolster our economy. And as a veteran, he knows how crucial it is to make sure our men and women who serve are taken care of when they come home. He has my full endorsement in his campaign for Congress in NH-01, and I encourage Granite Staters to support him in the Republican Primary on September 11th.”
Eddie Edwards, a United States Navy veteran and former Police Chief in New Hampshire, made the following statement in response to the endorsement:
"I am extremely grateful to Senator Santorum for his support and trust in me. He has devoted so much of his life fighting to protect the unborn and advocating for the sacredness of life. He has been a leader in the Republican Party on bringing back American jobs and increasing our manufacturing base to grow our economy. It is an honor to have his endorsement."
