Dover, NH – Eddie Edwards, candidate for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, has secured the Republican nomination tonight. Eddie issued the following statement:
"Thank you, New Hampshire. Thank you to my wife Cindy who has been by my side every step of the way. A special thanks to my family, and of course, the army of volunteers, donors, and supporters we have had the privilege of working beside for the last 18 months.
"Tonight, New Hampshire’s First Congressional spoke with a loud and with an undeniable voice. It’s the same message I have been hearing as I traveled to all 80 city and towns. People demand change in Washington. They yearn for honesty, integrity, and leadership. They want to vote for someone who has served our country and understands the honor that comes with that responsibility. They want a representative who will be accountable to the people, not to personal ambition. They want an independent minded reformer who believes in term limits, who will go to Washington, serve his constituents, and then come home. They are looking for a representative who will look past the partisan divide and put forth the values my grandmother taught me - the American values of hard work, unity, freedom, and justice.
"My childhood was challenging. My mother pleading to my father for the abuse to stop. The sound of the police coming to my home. Blue lights. Blue lights and police are part of who I am. They shaped me. They were there to protect my mother, and they meant that I was safe. They, along with the strength, guidance, and wisdom of my grandmother, drew me to service. They drew me to join the United States Navy, to serve my country, to join law enforcement, and to be a better man, father and husband. And hopefully with the support of the residents of the First District, a better Representative."
"New Hampshire has been my home for over 30 years. In my service in law enforcement, I have seen other families struggle. I have seen first hand what the opioid epidemic has done to our state. This will be a priority for me as the next Representative from the First District.
"As a veteran, I understand the challenges that our men and woman face when they come home. And like my fellow Granite Staters, I am outraged by the lack of accountability at the VA and accessibility to quality healthcare here in New Hampshire.
"As a small business owner, I am heartened by the strides our economy has made here in New Hampshire and across the nation. We cannot take a step back. Too many small businesses and middle class families here in New Hampshire are counting on us. As the next Representative from NH-01t, I will fight to keep our economy humming and ensure that every man and woman keeps more of what they earn.
"This is just the beginning. Together, over the 56 next days, we will be taking our message throughout the district. We will be taking our message to Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. I will campaign on our shared American values, even in places where Republicans have rarely gone.
"I will tell them the choice in November is clear: We can follow the failed progressive policies of Chris Pappas, or we can rally together, muster that 'Live Free or Die' spirit and put forth our American Values. Tonight, I am humbled by the trust the residents of the First District have granted me. I am resolute to not let them down. And I am confident that together, we can win."
